This quilt was brought to me in a very loved state. The owner wanted to be able to pass this quilt onto the newest arrival to their family but it was in no shape for that. Together, we picked out the 4 best blocks to salvage and got to work! As you can see in the last image, all the fabrics are original to the quilt and it finished at baby size. The only new fabric I had to put on it was a new muslin backing.
From Full Size to Baby Quilt
From a King to a Queen
This beautiful quilt was made by the Amish in Pennsylvania. The couple who hired me to resize this quilt had recently downsized to a smaller bed but still wanted to use this beautiful quilt. Together we decided the best way to resize this quilt was to remove the outer two borders and one top row. Because this quilt was made by the Amish community, I used my 1927 Singer Redeye 66 treadle machine to reapply the binding to one side and hand stitched it down to the back of the quilt. Once the quilt was done, I realized there was enough of the cut off borders to make two pillow shams, which I did. Unfortunately I did not get any pictures of the quilt before I resized it.
30 Years of Love
This was a quilt given as a wedding gift 30 years ago. For 30 years it has been slept under and well loved. It helped its owner through all of life's ups and downs, including cancer. Many of the fabrics in this quilt were well beyond repair and needed to be replaced. This quilt took seven months! Unfortunately many of the fabrics looked good to the naked eye, but once the hand sewing started, the fabric had to be replaced. Much of this quilt was repaired on the long arm and the sewing machine.
